Prince William (Prince) is about 10 years old. He was attacked by dogs, losing a large part of the muscle structure on his left rear leg. After several surgeries and during a long recovery period, he was bitten in the same area by a rattlesnake, causing additional permanent nerve damage. Prince can't lift his right rear foot and it drags on the ground, resulting in frequent injury and infection to the top of his foot.

Popeye freely roamed across North Knoxville for six months. Nobody would admit knowing Popeye or his owner. Finally, a lady was successful in blocking Popeye in her barn and we were able to retrieve him. He has cataracts in both eyes and will eventually be totally blind.

Spruce has a chronic ear infection that has caused a partial facial paralysis. Surgery has not provided any cure and the only treatment seems to be repeated cleaning and packing with an antibiotic paste. This treatment seems to have provided relief but does not affect the basic problem.

Ellie was surrendered by an owner who could no longer continue the extra care that Ellie requires. Ellie was born without a rectum or the ability to control urination. Surgery created a rectum but "leaking" urine causes constant irritation. Frequent baths and medications are necessary to control infection and urine scald on the inside of both rear legs.

Muchacha came from the same Georgian petting zoo as did Madam X. He has a chronic jaw abscess that will not heal, despite repeated treatments. He is extremely wary of people and is difficult to catch, halter and treat. Muchacha is also an opportunist, watching for open gates or down fences, considering any opening an opportunity to visit around the neighborhood.

Sampson is a five year old gelding that was born to a mother that had no milk. He was hand raised and bottle fed. Although now healthy, he has difficulty maintaining his weight. He also occasionally shows signs of previous over bonding with people. He has no aggressive tendencies but is best described as pushy.
